OPT Inis Meáin is delighted to announce two exciting artist residency opportunities: one for a poet and one for a theatre practitioner, both working through the Irish language.
Each selected artist will receive a fee of €2,000, along with self-catering accommodation provided.
The residencies will take place in Autumn 2026 in the unique setting of Inis Meáin, one of the Aran Islands. As part of the residency, each artist will engage with the local community.
Residency dates are to be confirmed but will take place in September/October 2026.
Please see below for further details on how to apply.

Poetry Residency
This residency will support a poet working through the Irish language to develop new or existing work.
The selected artist will be expected to facilitate at least four poetry workshops with a local community group. As part of the residency, the artist will also be invited to
present their work—alongside contributions from workshop participants—at a public event during the local festival Éigse Dara Beag in the spring.

Theatre Residency
This residency will support a theatre practitioner (playwright, dramaturg, or director) working through the Irish language to develop new or existing work over a four-week period.
The selected artist will engage with the local drama community, through a weekly series of workshops.
Applicants are invited to propose an approach to working with the group. This may include, for example:
● developing a series of short dramatic pieces or sketches
● supporting participants in building performance or technical skills
● exploring devising, script development, or performance techniques
The residency should foster creative collaboration, skills development, and artistic exchange with the local group.
